The Short Drop - Matthew Fitzsimmons

A decade ago, fourteen-year-old Suzanne Lombard, the daughter of Benjamin Lombard—then a senator, now a powerful vice president running for the presidency—disappeared in the most sensational missing-person case in the nation’s history. Still unsolved, the mystery remains a national obsession.

For legendary hacker and marine Gibson Vaughn, the case is personal.

Fitzsimmons' debut novel is full of twists and turns and no surprises it has gone on to become a bestseller. I read it in one sitting on a long haul flight. It has the right ingredients for a plane read - mod amount of complexity, interesting characters and a healthy dose of political conspiracy.

The Short Drop is the first book in the Gibson Vaughn 3-part series, but it can also be read on its own and the ending is more than satisfying enough to leave it there.

“When else in human history could someone ascend bloodlessly to become the most powerful man in the world? It was the chance to be a civilized god.”

Nominated for a 2017 Audie award for thriller/suspense - in company with winner James Patterson, as well as Harlan Coben. Might be worthwhile trying the audio book for this one.

Published in 2015. 400 pages.
